Day 2 - 5/19
The second day of my project was easily the most frustrating. Today was the day that I began to put down the border. Each border has four holes across the top, with stakes for each. Trying to make it into an oval type shape was difficult because the borders wouldn't really bend how I wanted them to. It turned out looking fine, but was a hard process. Putting the stakes through the borders was also difficult. There is a little piece of plastic on the bottom of each hole that prevents the stake from puncturing the ground. Once you break this piece, it's not hard. But getting to that point takes so much effort. I think I ended up bending 3 or 4 of them. By the end of this my arm was incredibly sore. I also ran into a very annoying problem when there would be rocks underground and the stake wouldn't go any deeper. I would either reposition the stake or just get the rock out myself. After a while it was finally done. Then I used a weed eater to cut all of the grass in the middle. I did this so that the rocks and the paper would lay flatter. Once all the grass was cut I used a leaf blower to get it all out. After that, I began laying the paper down. I probably should've measured this but I didn't. I kind of just put it in there and used 3 different pieces to make it cover all of the grass. The instructions said to use staples to keep it in the ground, but I thought that the rocks would hold it down just fine. After all of this was done, I needed to put the bird feeders back because I was putting the rocks down next. Trying to get the base of the bird feeder through the paper was pretty hard so I just ended up cutting holes.
